Sotiris I. Patsios holds a Dipl. Ing. in Chemical Engineering, with highest honors from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2004), and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2011). Since 2011, he is working as a postdoctoral Research Associate at NRRE Laboratory. His main research activities comprise: development of hybrid biotechnological – membrane separation processes, valorisation of agro-industrial waste and by-product streams, advanced wastewater treatment through Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology, studying of fouling and biofouling phenomena in membrane processes, and building sustainable circular economy value chains. He has been involved as a Research Associate in 12 R&D projects funded by the European Commission, national funding agencies, and private entities, including FP6 project “GROUNDHIT: Ground Coupled Heat Pumps of High Technology”, which was nominated the “Energy Globe Award” for Greece in 2008. He is first author/co-author in 19 peer-reviewed papers, co-inventor in 2 national patents, and he has given numerous oral presentations in national and international conferences and workshops. He was member of the Organizing Committee of several international and national scientific events, and he has been co-supervisor in three Dipl. Ing. thesis and two undergraduate practicum studies.
Outside the Lab, Sotiris enjoys playing basketball, listening to British rock music, and studying modern history
