Innovative water treatment plant from non biodegradable toxic pollutants / Funded by SYDESYS, Greece
The innovative unit is based on Photocatalytic Membrane Reactor (PMR) technology, which combines two modern processes, photocatalysis and membrane filtration, and which has already been tested on a laboratory scale with very encouraging results. The hybrid system exploits the in situ production of strong UV oxidants on catalytic nanoparticles (titanium dioxide, TiO2), which achieve the oxidation / degradation of non-biodegradable and dangerous to human health toxic organic pollutants (e.g. pesticide residues, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, paints, etc.). In this way water purification is achieved without the addition of chemicals or other oxidizing substances, such as chlorine, ozone or hydrogen peroxide.
