Bio(Cat)Diesel workshop
Bio(Cat)Diesel workshop entitled: “Novel biotechnological and biocatalytic solution towards sustainable development”, organized by our valuable partners from the Department of Chemistry at University of Crete, was successfully completed on Monday October 2, 2023, attracting the interest of all participants!
The workshop comprised two sessions; in the morning session, speakers presented the main outcome of the project: “Bio(Cat)Diesel – Sustainable biocatalytic production of advanced biodiesel using novel biocatalysts produced from conventional biodiesel industrial byproducts” and shared interesting findings, focusing on the development of sustainable solutions for second-generation biodiesel production, from novel whole-cell biocatalysts’ construction and enzyme immobilization to biocatalytic transesterification. In the afternoon session, invited speakers talked about the role of microbes in sustainable food production (Assist. Prof. P. Sarris), the enzymatic CO2 capture (Assist. Prof. I. Antonopoulou), the production of PLA out of food wastes (Assist. Prof. K. Velonia), and microbial communities at extremes environments (Researcher, P. Polymenakou). The Bio(Cat)Diesel organizing team greatly appreciates all the invited speakers for the exceptional quality of their presented work!
Special thanks to Assist. Prof. Ioannis Pavlidis and his team for successfully hosting the workshop and for creating a friendly environment, filled with fruitful discussions!
