The work entitled: “A SYSTEMATIC INVESTIGATION OF LEAD AND SULPHATE IONS REMOVAL FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS BY ELECTRODIALYSIS” by Alexia Voutetaki, Athanasios Papadopoulos, Konstantinos Plakas, Dimitrios Bollas, Symeon Parcharidis and Panagiotis Seferlis, presented by Mr. Konstantinos Plakas, associate researcher of NRRE lab, received the best oral presentation award in the thematic area “Waste Treatment and Utilization” during the 13th Panhellenic Scientific Conference in Chemical Engineering, that took place between 2nd and 4th of June 2022 in Patras, Greece.
This work concerns the application of electrodialysis, as an alternative electrochemical separation technology based on ion exchange membranes, for the purification of waste effluents and the recovery of valuable ions in lead-acid battery industries. The work was conducted in the context of the research project “ELECTRACCUM: Development and Experimental Testing of Electrochemical Unit for the Purification of Liquid Effluents of the Chemical Accumulator Industry, Recycling of Valuable Ions and Utilization of Water in Agriculture” with the participation of Sunlight Group Energy Storage Systems company, and has been co‐financed by the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, under the call RESEARCH–CREATE–INNOVATE (project code: T1EDK- 02677) (http://electraccum.cperi.certh.gr/).
